Are We Authentically Leading Those Who Count On Us?

I never knew myself to be a leader in any way. I doubted my ability to provide guidance to others, and model what is possible. This is because I was physically going through the motions of performing in the outside world, yet hadn’t yet learned the truth of why I was doing so in my heart. I hadn’t accepted my own light within, and how necessary honest self-expression is to our soul. Yet, I had been in β€˜leadership’ positions since my earliest days. As captain of various sports teams, in academics, in the community, within the corporate world and later as an entrepreneur.

My perception of my ability to lead is shifting. This is because I have learned over time how different leadership can look for all of us. I understand with time that we are all here with our unique gifts. It takes some courage, some finesse and having the right cheerleaders around us to start speaking to what it is that we are here to share.

Today, I find myself having the privilege of engaging with leaders from around the world, daily.

Those who are:

πŸ“· Guiding future generations into their true selves
πŸ“· Creating new ways of existence in our current paradigm,
πŸ“· Speaking their message our into the world

I have been writing and speaking about authentic leadership over the past few years because for decades, I was ‘leading’ but perhaps from a disembodied place. In turn, unknowing, I was spreading my doubt, my fear, my not-enoughness, my limited views out into the world.

That has been changing over the past 5-6 years as I strip away the beliefs that are no longer mine to carry forward; those that do not reflect who I truly am. As a result, my children have become increasingly free of my conditioning too, so they can be led by their own hearts, rather than mine.

With that, I’ve also been gathering counsellors, therapists, teachers, coaches, guides, mentors and many women in circles to assess the qualities they exude – that which has them live their truest life and touch that of others in a meaningful way.

Here are my observations of high quality, integral, emerging leaders.

They possess:

πŸ”₯ The ability to hold the resistance at the center of duality/polarities
πŸ”₯ The willingness to embrace their own humanness – the shadows/past pains, the vulnerability, the sadness, the forgiveness, the acceptance, the compassion
πŸ”₯ The courage to speak truth into the world without making it personal, knowing that the ‘work’ goes beyond oneself
πŸ”₯ A balance in not dwelling in the shadows nor skipping over to the ‘happy’ or ‘positive’ to play safe or ensure the approval of others
πŸ”₯ The acknowledgement of – but resignation from – feeding the separateness that already exists so deeply within our humanity
πŸ”₯ The deep knowing that their gifts are meant to be shared AND understanding that personal process has to be attended to simultaneously
πŸ”₯ Not spreading the energy of disempowerment or victimization by blaming the systems, but rather, creating spaces for the pain to be released and moving onto practical solutions
πŸ”₯ The space to listen, as they are no longer overtaken by their own past narratives, and truthfully wish to support others
πŸ”₯ The sensibility to be humble, yet tenacious, intense and committed in their teachings and learnings. Knowing they will forever be both a teacher and student of this universe
πŸ”₯ The understanding that they can not serve from a place of emptiness or depletion- they do not take on the saviour role and create dependents but rather empower others to make better choices
πŸ”₯ A built-in accountability mechanism to let others know when they are not able to show up
πŸ”₯ The desire to live fully in their birthright of joy, expression, freedom and pleasure

It doesn’t mean that all has been conquered. It means however there is an intention, and we take baby steps towards a new way.

We NEED more authentic leaders in our world. Particularly, as parents raising future generations. Yes, it’s a tall order but we have denied our human potential for much too long. And therefore, strap down the creativity, aliveness and purpose of those who walk after us.

We need many to start showing up – particularly those who are governed by their hearts, not profit. By their true selves, not their veils. By the collective mandate, not only their own.

Let’s all do our emotional clean-up as we can during this tender and much needed time. Our emotional orientation is what is under our beliefs, our thoughts, our actions. And is what blocks our creative outlets, or in other words, the expression of our uniqueness to come through.

There is no way around the ‘work’ – the passageway is through.

You CAN recreate your foundation of beliefs so that you can be available for life to be expressed through you πŸ¦‹
